6000 EUR for OpenStreetMap

Posted by malenki on 13 December 2014 in English.

OSM affiliates amazon.de revenue with month of generation (pay-out two months later)

A small summary

Matching the end-of-year rallies for donations of a lot of institutions I want to have my little share in pointing the people to OpenStreetMap as receiver.

In 2011 I set up an affiliate account for OSM at Amazon.de. Since then a lot of people used the affiliate link to buy their stuff –4315 products– at Amazon so that we had a steady flow of averagely 140 EUR per month. Now for the headline I used: In this very month the 6000 EUR mark will be hit. With the beginning of the new year OSM will have received in total 6.021,25EUR. All numbers in full detail you find at the wiki.

In the name of OpenStreetMap I want to thank everybody who contributed to this sum. Of course I also want to encourage you to continue doing so! ;)

Have some relaxed holidays –
Thomas

Hold on, is the money generated going towards osm? I can only see it going to another organisation fossgis

The FOSSGIS e.V. is the registered association in Germany which handles “official” OSM stuff. Since lately woodpeck aka Frederik Ramm (who is quite well known) is the treasurer of the FOSSGIS.

Ummh, it sounds a bit dodgy to me, why not just pay it directly to OSMF? Money going into FOSSGIS pot I imagine is funding www.fossgis.de and the fossgis project.

You may see the FOSSGIS as German local chapter. So far no “real” local chapter of the OSMF exists afaik.

When you speak German you may also have a look at the FOSSGIS’ website of why, how and what the FOSSGIS does regarding OSM and of requests for funding.

I have been using smile.amazon.com to shop and automatically have Amazon donate a fraction of the price of my purchases to the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap team. I don’t know if this is Amazon US specific, but it seems to be a similar setup. I believe the donation is 0.5% of each purchase.
