GPX voice markers?

I use a Columbus V-900 for my audio mapping. Costs $100.

What on earth is this?

yes, NE2, it moves rom year toyear.

Using self-generated TMS compatible tiles with OSM

You *do* know about the Terraservice WMS, don't you? Recent versions of JOSM include them as one of the default values you can copy into your menu.

Doubled up interstate?

I looked at it. Yes, it's just as Sven L said -- that entire county was double-imported. It's tedious to fix by hand. I'd hope that somebody already has a program to look for duplicates and delete them.

Doubled up interstate?

If you're seeing the same thing that I saw on I-87 in New York State, then what's happened is the way has been wrapped around on itself. My solution was to split the way at the very end node where it wraps around, then figure out which copy of the way is shorter (it wasn't completely wrapped back), and delete it.

bulk entry idea

As others said, there are copyright infringement concerns with Wikipedia. However, it *is* non-infringing to use Wikipedia as a catalog of places to geolocate independently of Wikipedia's geolocation.

I saw your note over at BikePgh. http://bike-pgh.org/bbpress/topic/lets-add-bike-infrastructure-to-openstreetmap Great idea! It was I who ran the mapping party in Pittsburgh at deeplocal a few months ago. Have had it on the schedule to return, a couple of times, but they both fell through for various reasons. Won't have the time to return until late August at the earliest. Is there anything I can do to help you from home? I'm russ@cloudmade.com; feel free to send me direct email.

pittsburgh

Hooray! Pgh has a lot of problems in its grid that need fixing. I cleaned it up a bit, but it still needs work byh a local.

First Steps

Yes, I love my Columbus V-900 logger, in spite of its flaws. I wrote a program to turn the Columbus pseudo-CSV files into GPX files. Fetch these files ("wget -m --no-parent ..." or "svn checkout ..."):
http://svn.openstreetmap.org/applications/utils/gps-tracks/columbus-to-gpx/

Works really well with JOSM. Don't bother with the Ubuntu JOSM package -- it's hideously out of date. The standalone works fine. Just save the jar and then "java -jar .../josm-tested.jar" and you're good to go.

Wrote my first plugin

I've uploaded it into the OSM source control, here: http://svn.openstreetmap.org/applications/utils/gps-tracks/columbus-to-gpx/

Adding commuter rail

Well done!

Wrote my first plugin

I wrote a Python program to turn the CSV into a .gpx file. Want a copy?

Started using JOSM

The biggest problem with Potlatch is that it edits using the API directly. If the API is slow, or your network connection is slow, then Potlatch is slow.

NYC

Hi. I'm running a mapping party in NYC in ten days. Will be downtown on Saturday and in Brighton Beach on Sunday. See http://community.cloudmade.com/event for details (once I nail them down later today).

Using OpenLayers

Nicely done, Bill!

Note taking using a voice recorder: Help required

I use a Columbus V-900. Here's my review of it:

The difference of OSM to other projects

Hmmm... I wonder if, as a start, it might be possible to automagically connect mailing list discussions with the associated wiki page. I'll look at doing that.

Town of Sand Lake, New York

Neat! Leave another diary entry when you get them entered and I'll go looking on the aerial photos. I love to see these old traces of things past. You should join the talk-us mailing list to keep up on issues specific to the US. http://lists.openstreetmap.org/

Argh, I was helping a friend learn to edit. Let me try again using my real name:
Which method of communication would you have us stop using?

(I'm not saying you're wrong; let's just see if there isn't some low-hanging fruit)
